Spotify to Begin Testing Pluggable Music and Podcast Device For the Car
Spotify will begin testing its first hardware device dubbed "Car Thing."
According to the company, the device is a voice-controlled music and podcast device tat will help the Spotify test how people listen in the car. Spotify says it is not entering the hardware market; the company's focus remains on becoming "the world’s number one audio platform." Spotify has not any current plans to make this specific device available to consumers.
Car Thing will be tested in the US only, with a small group of invited Spotify Premium users.
The small device reportedly plugs into a car's 12-volt outlet and connects to both the car and the user's phone via Bluetooth.
The company also hinted on similar devices in the future, so don’t be surprised if you hear about “Voice Thing” and “Home Thing.”
