Star Wars Battlefront knocks The Sims 2 from the top

Star Wars Battlefront knocks The Sims 2 from the top

Gaming Oct 5,2004 0

Activision has returned to the top of the UK software charts once more, with Star Wars Battlefront climbing one place to knock EA's The Sims 2 from the top of the ranking, while four new entries made it into the top ten. The Sims 2 fell only one place in the chart, coming in at number two this week, and leads a set of three EA titles in the top five - with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 up one place to number three despite the withdrawal of the PS2 version last week, and Burnout 3 down a spot to number four.

Nintendo's new GBA Pokemon titles were the top ranked new entry of the week, although the strategy of releasing two near-identical versions of the game on the same day denied the title major chart success. Pokemon Fire Red debuted at number five, while Pokemon Leaf Green came in at number seven.

There was more top ten success for Activision, as Creative Assembly's critically acclaimed Rome: Total War was the highest new entry on the PC platform, coming in at number six in the all-formats entertainment software chart; while EA made it four out of ten with Def Jam: Fight for NY debuting at number nine.

Outside the top ten, there were four further new entries in the all-formats chart. Sega's Outrun 2 came in at number 21 in the ranking, ahead of Midway's Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy at number 25, while Ubisoft had two new titles in the ranking - Rocky Legends at number 28, and Square Enix co-published PS2 RPG Star Ocean: Till the End of Time at number 33.

Missing in action this week are three PC titles - Vivendi Universal Games' Evil Genius, which comes in at number nine in the PC-only chart, Ubisoft's Myst IV: Revelation, at number 11 in the PC chart, and THQ's PC version of Full Spectrum Warrior, which debuts at number 13 in the PC ranking.

There's also sadly no sign of Ubisoft's survival horror title Obscure, despite a good critical reception, and the PS2 port of Capcom's magnificent Viewtiful Joe is nowhere to be seen in the ranking.

Next week is a bit of a shoe-in for the top spot, with EA's FIFA Football 2005 being launched across every platform under the sun, while Microsoft will also be hoping for big things from Big Blue Box' Fable, and Nintendo will be pinning its hopes on Pikmin 2. Source: www.gamesindustry.biz
