T-Mobile Might be First for WiFi Curve

T-Mobile Might be First for WiFi Curve

Smartphones Aug 15,2007 0

Early this summer, the BlackBerry 8300 was introduced by Research in Motion (RIM), who gave it the more consumer friendly name Curve. Now there's word that an enhanced version of this smartphone might debut from T-Mobile USA on September 24. Unlike the current model, this upcoming one will supposedly include Wi-Fi, making it one of RIM's first smartphones to do so.

This device will be designated the BlackBerry 8320, but it will still be called the Curve, according to this unconfirmed report.

Wi-Fi Yes, GPS No

A few weeks ago, RIM unveiled the BlackBerry 8310, a version of this smartphone with a built-in GPS receiver.

A leaked data sheet for the 8320 shows that it will not include this capability. This is because RIM's engineers were not able to add the necessary hardware for both features into this product's casing.

More About the BlackBerry Curve

The Curve has a built-in QWERTY keyboard and a 320-by-240-pixel (QVGA) display.

RIM is positioning the Curve as a device for consumers, and so it playing up its multimedia capabilities. This device has a microSD card slot for additional storage, especially of audio and video files.

It has a built-in 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0, and a trackball in place of a scrollwheel or D-pad.

The Curve is a quad-band GSM phone with GPRS and EDGE. It does not have 3G support.

More information on this BlackBerry can be found on RIM's web site.
