The widespread availability of 16x DVD burners has pushed down retail prices of 12x, 8x8 (Dual) and 8x DVD burner models to new levels.

With mainstream retail prices at NT$4,900-6,500 (US$144-191), 16x DVD burners have not been selling well, the sources indicated.

As reported on August 26, BenQ launched a 16x DVD burner – one that does not support burning of DVD+R DL media – at a retail price below NT$4,000 (US$118), in order to compete with 8x and 12x DVD burner models.
