Record sales for Intel and AMD mobile products

Enterprise & IT Apr 20,2005 0

The two companies announce their first-quarter revenues and mobile microprocessor units set a record for Intel Corporation while AMD reports record server and mobile processor sales. Intel Corporation announced its first-quarter revenue of $9.4 billion,as AMD reported revenue of $1.227 billion and an operating loss of $46 million. For Intel, the first-quarter revenue is up 17 percent year-over-year and down 2 percent sequentially.AMD CPG's first quarter sales growth was also driven by a strong overall penetration in high-growth regions, particularly greater China. AMD64 processor sales grew a record 30 percent sequentially and represented 63 percent of CPG sales.

“Led by strong demand for our mobile products, Intel posted double-digit revenue and profit growth versus a year ago,” said Intel CEO Craig Barrett. “Today marks the 40th anniversary of Moore’s Law, which remains the driving force behind our ability to continually innovate and bring exciting new products to our customers around the world. In the coming quarters we expect to carry on the pace set over past decades by ramping our industry-leading 65nm process technology and launching additional dual-core microprocessors for our desktop, notebook and server platforms.”

"Our microprocessor business delivered record sales in what is typically a seasonally down quarter, driven by increased sales across all product categories," said Robert J. Rivet, AMD's chief financial officer. We continued to gain momentum with year-over-year sales growth of 31 percent, highlighted by AMD Opteron™ and AMD Athlon™ 64 processor sales, each of which more than doubled from a year ago. "The NOR Flash memory market continued to experience industry-wide oversupply and strong pricing pressure.

For Intel, the total microprocessor units and the average selling price were approximately flat, as mobile microprocessorand Wireless connectivity units set a record. Chipset, motherboard, Flash memory and Wired connectivity units were lower.
