NXP Semiconductors Unveils Platform for 18 Hour Audio Playback in Music Phones

Smartphones Oct 10,2006 0

NXP Semiconductors today announced the new Nexperia Cellular System Solution 5211 for the delivery of MP3 capability to mobile handset users. The new solution supports stereo recording from FM radio, MP3 and video playback, a mega-pixel digital camera interface, USB charging, connect-to-PC and Bluetooth stereo. The package enables 18 hours of MP3 playback, five hours of talk time, 750 hours of standby time and nine hours of video playback.

Encompassing a highly compact 10mm x 10mm baseband processor and 6mm x 6mm power management unit with integrated charging functionality, the system solution 5211 presents an attractive proposition to handset manufacturers looking for cutting edge audio features in a small form-factor package.

The system solution 5211 does so without the need for an external coprocessor. Removing the need for an external processor can reduce a handset’s bill of materials by $5-8 in comparison to double-CPU solutions and reduces the handset’s power consumption for improved battery life.

The Nexperia cellular systems solution 5211 can be upgraded with the LifeVibes Music Player solution from NXP Software. This music player solution enables synchronization of the phone music collection with a PC Windows Media Player, fast navigation through the music collection through a music library, and playback of both Windows Media and OMA v2 DRM protected songs.

The NXP Semiconductors Nexperia cellular system solutions 5211 for GPRS and 5210 for EDGE are available now.
