Xbox 720 Is Said To Be A set-top box with Voice and Motion Controls

Gaming Jan 22,2013 0

The latest Xbox 720 rumors tie in with previous information and indicates that Microsoft is to seeing the next Xbox reinvented as an all-around set-top box. With Microsoft expected to formally announce its successor to the Xbox 360 this year, a system diagram posted by VGLeaks.com names a multitude of key components.

The diagram indicates that the Xbox 720 (codenamed Durango) will be able to receive high definition signals from other devices via an HDMI 1.4 port, such as cable or satellite TV receivers.

If that it true, it would underline Microsoft's efforts to bring the new console into the central of home entertainment.

In addition, Xbox 720 is said to feature a "High-fidelity Natural User Interface (NUI) sensor," tying in to speculation that Kinect 2.0 will be shipped as standard with every 720.

Other details assert that the 720 will include a Blu-ray drive, 8GB of memory, an 8 core CPU chip, and a graphics processor that can run at 1.2 teraflops. The processor has x64 architecture and eight cores running at 1.6 GHz. Each of those CPU threads has its own 32 kB L1 instruction cache and 32 kB L1 data cache. Each module of the four CPU cores has its own 2 MB L2 cache giving the processor a total of 4 MB of L2 cache. The next-generation Xbox GPU is reportedly a custom D3D 11.1 class unit running at 800 MHz with 12 shader cores and 768 total threads.
