LG Innotek To Develop 3D Smartphone Camera With Apple
LG Innotek is joining forces with Apple to develop a smartphone camera module which enables 3D photo shooting, a feature that is expected to find its way to Apple's new products starting from the latter half of next year.
The systen uses LG Innotek's dual camera and Apple plans to apply its own 3D camera technology into LG' s device.
Apple gained access to 3D camera technology with the US$20 million acquisition of Israeli start-up LinX in April 2015. LinX has the technology of adding more depth to photos by dividing the digital image in three stages.
LG Innotek is the exclusive supplier of dual cameras for Apple's iPhone 7. But the Korean company has also provided is own 3D camera technology to the LG Optimus 3D smartphone.
