New Skype for Web Released But Not For Safari, Firefox or Opera Browsers

New Skype for Web Released But Not For Safari, Firefox or Opera Browsers

Enterprise & IT Mar 8,2019 0

Microsoft has launched the new Skype for Web, which allows Chrome and Edge users to make HD video calls without using the Skype app.

The new Skype for Web is available now on machines running running Windows 10 or MacOS 10.12 Sierra and later. The new version of the service will only work with Chrome and Microsoft’s own Edge browser, however. Other browsers, such as Firefox, Safari, or Opera aren’t currently supported.

Here’s a look at the latest features on Skype for Web:

  • HD video calling— one-to-one or group video calling, with call reactions.
  • Call recording
  • Notifications panel—Catch up on what you’ve missed in your notifications panel. Click the bell icon to see reactions to your messages, @mentions in group conversations, or if someone quoted you. Click a message in the notifications panel to jump into the conversation.
  • Find within conversations—You can now find messages in the current conversation by typing the word or phrase you want to find in the search box.
  • Chat Media Gallery— The Chat Media Gallery makes it easy to find files, links, and photos shared in a conversation, whether it was yesterday or last month.

In addition, today Microsoft is releasing the updated MSI distributable for Skype (version 8) for Windows desktop, which replaces the existing MSI distributable of Skype (version 7) for Windows desktop.
