AMD APUs Go Mobile At MWC

AMD is set to showcase a set of products powered by its 2014 sereis of AMD A-Series Accelerated Processing Units, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. 2014 marks the introduction of AMD's most advanced AMD A-Series Accelerated Processing Units (APUs). AMD hopes that these new processors would reestablish performance expectations while increase mobility with enhanced power efficiency.

Due the first half of this year, the new low-power platforms, codenamed "Mullins" and "Beema," pack AMD Radeon graphics performance and multi-core computing into new client devices such as tablets, 2-in-1s and small form factor notebooks. The new performance platform, codenamed "Kaveri" will deliver up to 12 compute cores (4 CPU cores, 8 GPU cores) and touts HSA features for speed and performance for ultrathin notebooks.

"Mullins" will be built on the 28nm process and contain between 2 and 4 'Puma' CPU cores, GCN graphics, and an AMD ARM backed security processor. The SoC, with an approximate SDP of 2W will be a powerhouse within fanless mobile gadgets

You can expect to see these new APUs in a variety of elegant form factors at MWC, before their official release by manufacturers this summer.

Among other products on display, there will be "Mullins" APU-powered Nano PCs. AMD will be also showing off at the show its Project Discovery PC gaming and productivity tablet, as well as tablets and 2-in-1 notebooks supporting natural user interfaces like gesture control, facial login, and more.

Adobe, Bluestacks, eyeSight, Microsoft, AMD's ARM TrustZone partners will also showcase software solutions optimized for the APU-powered devices.
