VIA Announces Chipset Support for AMD Dual-Core Technology
Offering comprehensive support for AMDs latest Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors, VIA K8 Series chipsets ensure full compatibility with next generation processing solutions
VIA Technologies, Inc, a leading innovator and developer of silicon chip technologies and PC platform solutions, today announced comprehensive support for the latest Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors with its acclaimed K8 Series of core-logic chipsets.
As the industry transitions from single to multi-core technology for higher performance in multi-threading and multi-tasking environments, VIA is working closely with industry partners to ensure comprehensive platform support and unconstrained performance. With the introduction of the first Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors, AMD continues to provide technology leadership for server platforms, strengthening the AMD Opteron processors performance and fostering a robust infrastructure environment that VIA has long been a part of.
The VIA K8 Series chipsets, including the new VIA K8T890, leverage VIA Hyper8 technology to ensure high speed, low latency performance with the latest AMD Opteron processors, ideally supporting dual-core architectures in the next generation of powerful server solutions. The VIA K8T890 also integrates 20 lanes of PCI Express connectivity, enabling high bandwidth peripheral connections and support for the latest professional-class 3D graphics solutions for workstation applications.
VIA is proud to support AMDs continued processor leadership and their premier entry into the multi-core arena with the latest AMD Opteron processors, commented Chewei Lin, Vice President of Product Marketing, VIA. From our side VIA has extensive experience supporting dual processor designs, and this technology know-how puts us in a uniquely strong position to support the latest processor innovations.
AMD is proud to continue our strong collaboration with VIA, and together we will deliver highly effective platforms based on the Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor, said Ben Williams, vice president, commercial sales and marketing, Microprocessor Solutions Sector, AMD (NYSE: AMD). AMD identified early in the AMD64 development process that multi-core architectures would be the next evolution and optimized our designs to ensure that we could continue to offer industry-leading performance and technology leadership with minimal disruption in existing infrastructure.
About the VIA K8 Series Chipsets
Optimized for a complete range of AMD Opteron processors, AMD Athlon 64 processors, AMD Athlon 64 FX processors, and AMD Sempron processors, VIA K8 Series chipsets include the widely acclaimed K8T800, K8T800 Pro, and K8T890 discrete solutions, and the K8M800 integrated graphics chipset.
VIA latest chipset, the VIA K8T890, features the unique VIA Flex Express Architecture to allow the industrys most flexible implementations of PCI Express devices. Multiple device configurations can be implemented, with support for up to five PCI Express devices directly into the chipset North Bridge and a total of 20 PCI Express lanes for a combined bandwidth of 10GB/s.
The VIA K8 Series chipsets in combination with the VIA VT8237 South Bridge also provide a comprehensive range of integrated storage, multimedia and connectivity options, including native Serial ATA/RAID, as well as support for VIA Vinyl Audio, and Gigabit Ethernet through the VIA Velocity controller.
