Asus Showcases The 'ARES' Dual-GPU Radeon HD 5870x2 Graphics Card at CeBIT

Asus Showcases The 'ARES' Dual-GPU Radeon HD 5870x2 Graphics Card at CeBIT

GPUs Mar 3,2010 0

ASUSTeK has on display the new ARES/2DIS/4GD5 dual-GPU graphics card at CeBIT 2010. The card has two Radeon HD 5870 GPU cores on board, running at 850MHz. Each GPU uses 1GB of GDDR5 video memory (4GB in total) with a data rate of 4.8Gbps. Asus claims that new ARES offers a 23% greater performance than a top-of-the-line Radeon HD5970. However the power consumption has been increased with the card to need 2x 8-pin and 1x6-pin PCI power connectors to operate. In combination with the PCI Express socket the power connectors can provide a maximum of 450 watt to the Ares.

The card is equipped with a huge cooling solution with a centered fan and two massive copper heatsinks. The oversized massive custom fan increases airflow by up to 600% in comparison.

Information indicate that the card reaches more than 14000 points in the Extreme setting (1920 x 1200 pixels 4x FSAA, a6x AF) at the 3DMArk Vantage Extreme benchmarking software.

Asus has not provided pricing details for this monster, which is expected to be available in Q2. However, it should be expected to retail for €800~1000.
