AudioDev launches the industry's first calibration disc for Dual Layer DVD-R
AudioDev is the company behind the first calibration discs for DVD (the K5 and the K9), DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW.
The company is also behind the design specifications for the official DVD Signal Disc from Philips and now they become the first company to develop and distribute a calibration disc for the DVD-R DL format. AudioDev's CATS equipment is used by replicators, drive manufacturers and material suppliers alike creating a universal language for optical media quality.
"Any test result is close to worthless without a frame of reference" says Magnus Wikstrand, Measurement Development Manager at AudioDev. "Our CATS analyzers need to show impeccable measuring values, but we must also deliver the right tools making our customers able to interpret and give the final verdict of the disc's quality" he continues.
"Calibration discs are more important when the format is launched and the production is starting up. This of course creates a dilemma because precision is crucial during the development process of a new format. Working close with the format developers, we know that the CATS analyzers are important reference tools for them to compare different prototype media" says Magnus Wikstrand
Already more than one year ago AudioDev started to look at a calibration disc for the DVD-R DL format. The new calibration disc for both recorded and unrecorded DVD-R DL for has been named KD Type1-2P and deliveries will start in June. The calibration discs are manufactured according to the 2P process and measurement values used during the calibration process are referenced by a, for this format, approved measurement laboratory.
Since early 2004, AudioDev also offers a calibration disc for DVD+R DL. The disc is named KPD Type1. Both discs can now be ordered from AudioDev.
AudioDev is currently working on calibration discs for both the DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL formats using the other manufacturing method, Inverted Stack (IS). "The next big challenge is the blue laser optical media formats. In this continuous job we are working closely with industry leading partners to develop new calibration tools" he finishes.
