BlackBerrys' Secure Work Space For iOS and Android Got Government Clearance

Smartphones Mar 26,2014 0

BlackBerry said it received security clearance for U.S. government employees to use its enterprise software on their Android and Apple smartphones and tablets. BlackBerry's Secure Work Space for iOS and Android, a multi-platform solution managed through BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 (BES10), has got the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 certifiction.

BES10 allows Blackberry'scorporate and government clients to manage devices on different operating systems.

The certification will allow organizations, including U.S. and Canadian government agencies, to deploy Secure Work Space to securely separate sensitive corporate data from personal content.

With Secure Work Space, BES10 protocols for data-at-rest and data-in-transit are extended to iOS and Android devices, including smartphones and tablets. This means data is protected while traversing networks as well as within the walls of the enterprise. Administrators can configure, secure, wipe and interact within the Secure Work Space on a device, while employees can enjoy the device for personal use.

Seperately, Blackberry today said that it as decided to take actin in order to prevent leaks of the compnay's confidential project inforation to the media.

"Leaks are, at their best, distracting, and at their worst downright misleading to our stakeholders, said John Chen, CEO of BlackBerry Ltd.

Blackberry said that is was pursuing legal action against a party who stole confidential information about a future BlackBerry product and made that information public. The person falsely posed as an employee of one of Blackberry's carrier partners to obtain access to secured networks.
