The Crucial P5 Plus 1TB NVME SSD is the first consumer drive from Crucial/Micron that supports the PCI-e protocol and reaches high reading/writing speeds. Crucial advertises the drive as capable of 6600 MB/s reading and 5000 MB/s writing speeds respectively. Using an NVME drive will make your system much faster compared with the traditional 2.5" SSDs and of course HDDs. The P5 Plus series come either at 500GB/1TB and 2TB models with completive price compared to the competition.
So how is the performance? For sure we can say that the drive is fast. Maybe not blazing fast as the specs indicate, however it did managed to compete with the Samsung 980Pro 1TB, which shows how good the drive is. We did noticed that the drive needs passive cooling, but in any case we didn't noticed any slowdown from the max reported temperature (67celcius). The drive is armed with 5 years of warranty directly from Crucial (or 600TB of data written). For higher performance, Crucial also offers via it’s the Storage Executive Software the "Momentum Cache”, which is essential a memory cache application for boosting performance and reduce wear of the installed NVME. Compared with the Samsung 980 Pro, the P5 Plus costs 5 Euro less, which isn't big and since the performance is more or less the same (and even better in several tests by a small margin), we have no problems suggesting this drive to all users who wish to get high performance and reliability at the same time with modern motherboards supporting PCIe-4.0 protocol.
