Epomaker Carbon 60
4. Conclusion
The EPOMAKER Carbon 60 packs small dimensions with a 61% QWERTY ANSI US Space-saving Layout Keyboard. The main idea behind this model is the use of Carbon Fiber as the building material of the outer shell which gives amazing strength and low overall weight. According to the official specs, the keyboard comes with almost 500gr weight, which is small and makes the keyboard very portable. As you might expected the build quality is there, there is no flex at all. Moving further, all keycaps are made out of PBT, so the surface should be somewhat more resistant to turning shiny from skin oils, compared to ABS, while the keyboard includes 3 layers of sound dampening that make typing more pleasurable to the ear.
The Carbon 60 comes only with one color (black), while users can choose between two mechanical switches, that have a low height profile and very good response (either Linear or Tactile). The keyboard packs three connection modes (wire, 2.4G, and BT) and includes a built-in 3000mAh battery. We would like to have the 2.4G dongle attached to the main body, but I guess there is a small tradeoff when external dimensions are limited.
The keyboard uses the open source VIA software to control its main functions that is basic and will do the job. It supports all major OS (Win/Mac/Linux), which might be a selling point for some users. There is no height adjustment but due to small dimensions and the low profile switches, we found the typing experience a pleasure to work with. Again Epomaker sells pads if you want to accompany the keyboard. As with all Epomaker products, all letters are printed onto the keycaps, in total darkness you might have some problem looking at keys and identifying what key is for what use.
Overall, we feel that the Carbon 60 is a statement from Epomaker since it has so many different product lineups that may overlap with one another. The Carbon Fiber material is a strong selling point, we would like also to see it with bigger models, and the retail price of $129.99 limits the target group of buyers. If you are looking for a cool small and lightweight mechanical keyboard, the Carbon 60 should be on your buying list.
