Gigabyte Enters Notebook Market
Gigabyte will set up an own-brand notebook subsidiary next month, with the new company receiving research and development support from Quanta Computer.
Although arrangements for the subsidiary have not yet been finalized, it will
probably be named G-Note, and will have a former Quanta executive as its president,
Gigabyte spokesman Tony Liao said. As DigiTimes.com reports, the new subsidiary will
focus on marketing (Gigabyte) branded notebooks, which will be manufactured by
Quanta.
Gigabyte stressed that the new company will be a fully owned subsidiary, without any investment from Quanta. In addition, Jason Lam, special assistant to Quanta chairman Barry Lam, said his company has no plans to take over Gigabyte or run a joint venture with the mobo maker.
The cooperation between Gigabyte and Quanta is a step back from a joint venture that both previously were said to be setting up to target the clone market, sources with the notebook sector said.
