Google Will Help You Find Your Plumber

Google is testing a new feature in the San Francisco area that lets local businesses such as locksmiths, plumbers, home cleaners and repair specialists promote their services in a special box at the top of some search results, Google said on a Friday. Developed by its advertising technology team, it is part of Google’s paid app for small businesses called AdWords Express. Servicemen pay to be ranked among the first search results and are connected with potential customers through the app after having been screened and qualified by Google.

Customers can review the service operator, place a call directly and send multiple requests straight from Google’s results page. Never having to leave the Google website, and thus saving clicks, is a feature that differentiates Google’s services from those of most other providers.

Amazon.com, Yelp Inc. and Angie’s List have also been sing the the Web to find local services. So now Google is trying to expand into different areas as it seeks new ways to boost user traffic and advertising dollars.

"From unclogging the bathroom sink to getting back into a locked apartment, there are moments throughout the day when people need a quick solution to a big problem," Google said. “Customers can read detailed reviews, submit a service request, or call your business directly for more information."
