Inprimis and iDVDBox Announce Start of i2DVD Player Pilot Production
Inprimis and iDVDBox today announced that the i2DVD player (co-designed and
co-developed by Inprimis and iDVDBox) is now entering pilot production. The
i2DVD player is a next-generation home entertainment device that combines
complete DVD functionality, Internet access, CD and MP3 music and interactive
TV technologies into a single unit no larger than a standard DVD player. In
addition the i2DVD provides interactivity between any standard DVD or CD media
and related Web content through iDVDBox's patent pending Box Engine technology.
iDVDBox President Steve Cavayero said, ``Our vision of a highly convergent
info-tainment center has now come to realization. iDVDBox's system development
partnership with Inprimis will allow us to bring the i2DVD to market quickly
with features that we believe consumers will not find in any other single
device.''
``With the i2DVD now going into pilot production, we're excited to be participating in the launch of this exciting product,'' stated Michael Stebel, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Inprimis. ``The adoption of DVD players, since the technology was first introduced in the Fall of 1997, has been extraordinary. The installed base of DVD players exceeds 20 million units in the US alone and a further 17 million units are expected to be sold in 2001. The i2DVD represents a new category of DVD players with significant value-added features and capabilities.''
The i2DVD player will be marketed by major national and international retailers with i2DVD Internet service being offered by ISPs including BigPlanet, Prodigy and others.
