Interview with Hirotishi Matsuda, from NEC Display Solutions

Consumer Electronics Apr 19,2005 0

DigiTimes.com had the opportunity to talk to Hirotoshi Matsuda, former president and CEO of NEC-Mitsubishi Electric Visual Systems and now head of the new company which is called NEC Display Solutions. He discusses the internal changes and current situation in the display industry as a whole. On April 1 this year, Japan-based display maker NEC-Mitsubishi Electric Visual Systems, a joint venture between NEC and Mitsubishi Electric, became a wholly-owned subsidiary of NEC. Since the company cannot use Mitsubishi brand names anymore, the president reveals that NEC Display Solutions is aiming to make Mitsubishi its biggest OEM customer by 2006.

Mr Matsuda depicts the picture of his company which he forecasts in a few years from now. He sees the sunset for CRT technology. Therefore, in 5-6 years from now, he is expecting that OLED technology will become mature enough to play a significant role in the market. According to him and the current situation of the industry, this technology will be suitable for real products to come out, not just for mobile phones, but also for standard PC monitors.
