Kioxia Exceria High Endurance MicroSD 512GB
2. Performance / Conclusion
After unpacking we connected the microSD to an external SD/MicroSD reader and connected it to a USB3.0 port. You will get around 461GB of useable empty free space and with the exFAT file system. Looking at the performance tests, the ATTO Disk Benchmark reports around 95 MB/sec reading and 90 MB/sec writing speeds. Note that this performance comes with higher than 64kb sized files, after all this microSD aims for constant writing performance of HD video, not small files writing/reading.
The KIOXIA Exceria G2 series are rated Application Performance Class A1 category and already there are A2 rated cards that according to the SD Association "..It makes SD memory card much higher performance than A1 performance by using functions of Command Queuing and Cache.."
While the ATTO Disk Benchmark 4.01.0f1 gave slight lower numbers
The CrystalDiskMark software reports slight higher performance
While the AJA System Test benchmark also reports around 90MB/sec reading and 86MB/sec writing speeds with 1GB test file size.
- Conclusion
The KIOXIA Exceria High Endurance series is a high-level product, that aims for applications with increased reliability and continued reading/writing, like with dashboard cameras, surveillance cameras, and any other steady video recording devices. Normal microSD cards don't mention their endurance limits and it's possible that if you use such microSD card at a continue recording device you will eventually get read/write errors. The advertised performance of the product is 100Mb/sec reading and 85MB/sec writing, which was found to be more or less true. In fact, you will get slightly higher writing performance and slower reading, which may be affected by the testing system after all.
The card is rated class A1, which is the latest microSD standard, and offers a minimum sustained writing speed of 10MB/sec, which is essential for 4K writing. So that means you have no problem any time to get the desired sustained writing speed. The retail price of the Exceria High Endurance 512GB model is higher than the "normal" series, which is expected. The product also comes with 5 years of warranty. Compared with other manufacturers, the Kioxia Exceria High Endurance series is priced higher, however, we do trust this company and the used memory modules (Toshiba) so we can highly suggest them as a top-notch product for users who need such a product.
