LG Electronics Reports High Earnings
LG Electronics said on Friday its second-quarter operating profit likely reached a two-year high, possibly due to strong contributions from its home appliances and television set businesses. LG said in a regulatory filing that April-June profit was likely 585 billion won ($504 million).
The result would be the highest quarterly profit since the 610 billion won of the second quarter of 2014.
LG provided just a guidance, and additional details wil be released in the company's final results report scheduled for late July.
The firm likely saw strong profit from its appliances business due to sales of premium products and unusually warm weather in certain markets that boosted demand for air conditioners.
The TV division likely swung to profit as major sporting events such as the 2016 UEFA European Championship soccer tournament boosted demand for large-sized sets.
On the other hand, sales of LG's G5 smartphones have been disappointing so the company's mobile division likely reported a fifth consecutive operating loss in April-June.
LG Electronics also on Friday said revenue for the second quarter likely rose 0.5 percent to 14 trillion won.
