LG Registers the "Super Multi" Name
LG Electronics has registered the "Super Multi" name with the DVD Forum.
This would require other brands to obtain LGs permission before allowing them to name DVD burners with the "Super Multi" name. The "Super" Multi" name was used by various manufacturers of DVD burners in the past, including Panasonic, and Teac. The name usually unveils the ability of a DVD burner to record on DVD-RAM media, apart from their obvious support for DVD-R/+R/+RW/-RW.
In response, Asustek Computer will first understand the details of LGs registration, after its latest announcement for a "Super-Multi" DVD burner. On the other hand, manufacturers like BenQ will use its self-designated DVD Cube rather than the name Super Multi. It is not yet clear whether Taiwanese LiteOn will use a different name for its upcoming DVD burners.
