LinkedIn Introduces Social News Service

LinkedIn Introduces Social News Service

Enterprise & IT Mar 11,2011 0

Internet social network LinkedIn, launched the "LinkedIn Today" service on Thursday that creates a customized online newspaper from articles being shared by the network's members. LinkedIn Today delivers the day's top news, tailored to each LinkedIn user based on what his or her connections and industry peers are reading and sharing.

LinkedIn Today gives users three social views of professional news that don't exist together in one place anywhere else on the web. The service can deliver news that matter to users' connections, their industry peers, and the wider professional audience.

The service will check the news articles being shared across users' networks and who is sharing it and it will highlight the top stories. It will also surface the top few stories a user needs to read today to be informed on what's happening in his/her industry or even other industries that they may choose.

By following industries, users can get the relevant news on their Front Page and in the top navigation. The service will also send users a weekly email of the top industry headlines across all of the industries they follow, the company added.

Another aspect of LinkedIn today is the ability to follow multiple industries, and then find the top news across all of those industries in one place.

Within any story that's being shared, users will be able to drill down to see who's shared a given headline. The service will show the professional identity of the users who shared the story, along with what they are saying to get a sense of the conversation happening around a given article. Users will be also able to narrow their results with filters like industry and company.

LinkedIn Today is also launching as part of the LinkedIn iPhone app as well. Two features of the News app on the iPhone includes both the ability to see what a user's connections are reading and an option to save articles.

The service is available today at www.linkedin.com/today.
