Writing Quality Tests - 3T Jitter Tests

Here we used 80min CD-R media from various manufacturers and burned the same AudioCD project at 40x. The following graphs show the 3T Pit & Land Jitter results.

- 3T Pit results

With all discs, there was a small increase towards the end when writing on the outer tracks on the disc's surface. The SKC disc gave the worst results being consistently above 35nsec. Only Fuji media (40x) managed to remain below 35nsec over the entire disc.

The average 3T Jitter values for all manufacturers discs are illustrated in the following graph. Here again, it can be seen that the SKC disc was above the Red Book limit.

- 3T Land results

The interesting thing to note here is the almost steady increase in land jitter as writing progresses from inner to outer tracks with again the SKC disc fairing worst of all and Fuji best.

The average values presented below only confirm the pattern we have seen develop so far.

- Summary

Except for the SKC disc, the values for the various manufacturers discs seem to be consistent and steady. Apart from some peaks that produced values above 35nsec, the drive in general kept the jitter values to an acceptable level. Certainly the average values were very good.

On the following page we check the C1 and C2 error rates for the same discs. These are the last of the quality tests.
