Microsoft, Disney and Sanyo to become Key members of the DVD Forum
Walt Disney Co Ltd, Microsoft Corp and Sanyo Electric Co Ltd are expected to become the leading members of the DVD Forum by February 2004.
The DVD Forum took the decision after elections held between the members of the group. The 220 members of the Forum voted via email in order to decide the new group managers. Final decisions, however, will be formally announced at the organization's general meeting scheduled for the end of February 2004.
Currently 17 companies seem to have the leadership role in the forum. Ten of them, including Sony, are proponents of the Blue-ray Disc DVD standard, while only two are from the camp of the rival standard, HD-DVD.
The addition of the three latest managing members, who are not proponents of either of the major standards, will change the composition of the leadership, perhaps lessening the dominance of the Blue-ray Disc camp.
