Microsoft May Drop The Optical Disc Drive in Next-year's Xbox One
Microsoft’s hardware plans for 2019 reportedly include the release of an Xbox One console that will not have an optical disc drive.
Accroding to thurrott.com, the new console will not be part of Microsoft's "Scarlett" devices, the company's next-gen consoles set for release in 2020. It will be a more affordable Xbox that will support a new 'disc-to-digital' program that turns your existing physical games into digital downloads. You will be able to
take your disc to a participating retailer and trade in your disc for a digital download, according to the report.
In addition, the report claims that Microsoft will release later this year a revised Xbox One S SKU that focuses solely on cost reduction and will feature a disc-drive.
