Nan Ya Plastics to end optical disc production

Optical Storage Jun 7,2005 0

Nan Ya Plastics Corporation (NPC) has decided to terminate its production of CD-R and DVD+R/-R discs amid disappointing revenues and profits from the segment. NPC declined to comment on the report.

NPC currently has a monthly production capacity of 17-18 million CD-R discs and three million DVD+R/-R discs, sources stated.

Sales agents for the company have stated they have been notified that production will terminate in three to six months, and the company is currently searching for Taiwan or Chinese buyers for its existing production equipment, the sources pointed out. The company is also in the process of reducing its staff from 350 people to about 50.

NPC first showcased its DVD+R/-R discs at the Computex Taipei 2004, and had ambitious plans to expand its production capacity.
