Nest today unveiled at an event in San Francisco the Nest Hello, its first-ever video doorbell, a rugged verion of the regular IQ camera, and a Secure alarm system.

The Secure alarm system is made up of three products designed to work together: Nest Guard, Nest Tag and Nest Detect.

Nest Guard sits at the front door. It's the center of the whole security system. It's where you arm and disarm as you come and go. It's a motion sensor for your main room or hallway. If your power goes down, it includes battery backup to keep Nest Secure connected. Nest Guard's colored lights and voice tell you what's happening in your home. And its loud alarm can scare off intruders.

Nest Tag fits on your keychain and makes arming and disarming easy. With a tap, instead of a passcode. If someone in the family loses a Nest Tag, you can disable it right away from the Nest app. You can also set a schedule to let people come in at certain times, like your dog walker.

Most security systems have separate sensors that detect different things. Some look out for motion. Others look out for doors and windows.

Nest Detect was built to sense both motion and open/close. You can even use it to open a door or window while the house is armed without setting off the alarm. And it all fits in a small design.

In case an an intruder tries to get in, the alarm goes off, and the Nest app alerts your phone. You can check your security history to see what motion sensor set off the alarm. And if you have a Nest Cam, you can see what's happening in real time. If you want an extra layer of security, you can add 24/7 professional monitoring from MONI.

The starter bundle will cost $499, with extra Detect sensors running $59. If you need an additional Tag for your roommates , that will set you back $25 each. A bundle with the newly announced IQ facial-recognition camera will be available at Best Buy for $599.

Nest Cam IQ

Nest Cam IQ brought smarts to indoor security cameras. And now, that same intelligence is coming outdoors with the Nest Cam IQ outdoor security camera.

Nest Cam IQ outdoor can tell a person from a thing and send an alert if someone's there. And with Nest Aware, a subscription service that adds intelligence and video storage, Nest Cam IQ outdoor can recognize a familiar face and even help you spot strangers.

The camera is tough enough to stand up to rain, snow and wind with heavy-duty weatherproofing. And the power cable is hidden, so it's tamper-resistant and secure on the side of your house.

And just like the indoor version, Nest Cam IQ includes Supersight. With its 4K digital sensor, HDR and 1080p HD video, Supersight lets you zoom in up to 12x and get an enhanced view of a specific area, like your driveway. It can also automatically zoom in and follow a person walking across your yard. And show you a close-up tracking shot with a wide 130° view.

If Nest Cam IQ detects a dog barking or a person talking, it can send you an alert. Then you can check the Nest app to see and hear what's happening out there. If someone's hanging around, ask what they want or tell them to leave. HD Talk and Listen uses Nest Cam IQ's speaker, a three-microphone system, noise suppression, and echo cancellation to make sure the conversation is clear. If intruders try to break in, you can send a video clip to the police.

You're paying a slight premium over the already expensive IQ: the outdoor variant will cost $350 when it ships in November.

Hello video doorbell

Nest's first video doorbell combines the security and intelligence of a Nest Cam with the familiar convenience of a doorbell.

Nest says the device records 4:3 aspect ratio HD video with HDR and a 160-degree field of view. It also has a microphone button, a speaker, a light ring, and a status LED. And, of course, it connects to your phone via Bluetooth LE.

Nest Hello can detect a person, then send an alert and a snapshot, even if that person doesn't ring the bell. With Nest Aware, consumers can get alerts when strangers or suspicious activity like people talking or dogs barking are detected.

Nest Hello customers can engage with guests and strangers at the door from anywhere and have a natural conversation with HD Talk and Listen. Echo suppression and ambient noise cancellation ensure it's easy to hear each other. A list of pre-recorded responses makes it easy to quickly answer visitors with one tap from the app.

Nest Hello will be available in the U.S. and Canada in the first quarter of 2018, and Europe later next year.
