New iMac Line Uses Intel Dual-core Chips
Apple on Wednesday said its entire line of iMac computers would feature Intel Core 2 Duo processors, speeding up the performance of the personal computers.
The company also said it would offer a new 24-inch iMac, adding to a popular line of 17-inch and 20-inch models. IMac prices start at $999, it said.
The new computers are up to 50 percent faster performance than the previous iMac, the company said. Like the 17-inch and 20-inch versions, the 24-inch iMac features the new 64-bit Intel Core 2 Duo processor with speeds ranging from 1.83GHz to 2.33GHz. It also doubles the amount of L2 cache, the twin cores sharing 4MB between them.
