New JVC Display Technology Delivers 10,000:1 Native Contast Ratio
JVC today announced new display technology that delivers a native contrast ratio of 10,000:1 and will be featured in new full HD home cinema front projectors.
At the heart of JVCs new technology are three 0.7 1920 x 1080 pixel full HD D-ILA (LCOS) devices that deliver a native resolution of two megapixels. A primary advantage of JVCs D-ILA (Digital Image Light Amplifier) device is that it eliminates grids, or the screen door effect, found in other technologies, offering a high aperture ratio of more than 90 percent to ensure smooth, film-like images. When combined with JVCs newly developed optical system, these devices can provide a native contrast of 10,000:1 and a brightness level of 800 lumens for natural yet vivid color reproduction and high contrast.
The first product to incorporate JVCs new technology will be a full HD home cinema projector that will be available in early 2007 and sell for less than $7,000. The new projector will be equipped with a converter and scaler that upconvert the incoming source regardless of its original format to properly display images at 1080p.
