Nvidia GeForce 9900 Series Coming in July
Nvidia will reportedly upgrade its high-end graphics cards this summer with the new G92 GPUs manufactured with the 55nm process.
The source of the news is Digitimes.com citing industry sources in Taiwan.
Code-named G92b, the new GPU is expected to operate at higher clocking speeds due to its advanced 55nm manufacturing process, potentially challenging Nvidia's current 9800 GX2 and 9800 GTX boards in terms of performance. The new GeForce 9900 series, which will launch in the second half this year is expected to continue the adoption of the G92 design.
Although Nvidia has not officially confirmed it, the new GeForce 9900 series are expected to be part of the company's GT200 platform.
Today's news come to confirm the words of Nvidia's Jeff Brown, who unveilled last week the company's plans to release its next GPU in the next couple of months. He said that the updated GPU would have 1 billion transistors. and feature 200 unified shader processors. Nvidia's current G92 GPUs feature 128 shaders.
Nvidia has not confirmed these early reports.
Nvidia also plans to launch the GeForce 9600 GSO GPU next month to compete with AMD's Radeon HD 3830. The GeForce 9600 GSO will based on the company's G92 GPU and will target the mid-range graphics card market.
