For our DVD reading tests, we used a variety of media, either burned or pressed Test Discs to measure the drive's performance.

According to the official specifications, the Pioneer BDR-S13U-X can read DVD-ROM at 16x, DVD-ROM DL at 12x, DVD-R at 16x, DVD-R DL at 12x, DVD-RW at 12x, DVD+R at 16x, DVD+R DL at 12x, DVD+RW at 12x, DVD-RAM at 5x and M-DISC(DVD) at 16x.

Single Layer DVD Media

Pressed ABEX TDR-820 (Single Sided Single Layer DATA)

The drive reads in CAV the disc, starts from 6.21X and ends at 17.21X.

4.7GB DVD-RW Reading

4.7 GB DVD+RW Reading

With Single layer DVD+/-RW media, we got very good reading performance up to 12X.

4.7 GB DVD-RAM Reading

The drive can read DVD-RAM media at 5X as specifications indicate.

Dual Layer Media

Pressed ABEX TDR-840 (Single Sided Dual Layer DATA)

Pressed Accesstek PTP ROM-9 disc

Again similar results with another PTP DVD-9 test media.

Pressed Accesstek OTP ROM-9 Test disc

No issues with OTP DVD-9 ROM media as well.

Pressed Matrix Movie (DVD-9 Video Ripping Disc)

Dual Layer DVD-Video can be read at an average reading speed of 9.0, and it can go up to 12.7X, very impressive performance.

8.5GB DVD-/+R DL media

The drive can read both DVD+/-R DL up to 12X with an average of 8.94X reading speed.
