Pioneer Japan announces new optical storage drives for JIS X6257 archive format
Pioneer Japan announced the introduction of Internal/External optical storage drives that support recording quality measurement drives of written discs (CD/DVD/Blu-Ray) and the JIS X6257 and ISO/IEC 18630 standards. The drives are only readers and named "BDX-PX1MC2" & "BDX-PR1MC-L2 (internal/external variation). For writing JIS X6257 compatible optical storage media, Pioneer will introduce the "BDX-PX1DM" (External USB drive) as well. Pioneer is the only manufacturer that supports the JIS X62557 mode of optical storage recording that is suitable for long-term storage purposes such as architectural books), electronic transaction data, corporate data, and personal data. This is a business-oriented product (special drive/special media) so Pioneer will offer to those customers, installation support and post-installation operational support upon request (Depending on the support content, charges may apply.).
No retail prices of the above drives are mentioned in the press release, nor their exact release date to the market (Japanese only or worldwide use?) We hope to get more information soon.
Both drives are ONLY readers and do not support disc recording. Write-once discs that are not JIIMA-certified can also be measured as reference values.
Features:
- Disc quality inspection when creating a new disc (JIS Z6017, JIS X6257, ISO/IEC 18630 initial recording quality inspection, etc.)
- Checking the quality of discs that have already been stored (JIS Z6017, JIS X6257, ISO/IEC 18630 regular recording quality inspection, etc.)
- Quality assurance evidence when delivering data on disk (for bidding)
Pioneer has their dedicated application called "Pioneer Error Rate Utility 2", you can measure the recording quality of discs recorded with the DM function of JIS X6257 and ISO/IEC 18630 standards. The measurement results are separately displayed for "random symbol error rate" and "burst error" in a format that complies with the operation of JIS X6257 and ISO/IEC 18630 standards. JIIMA archive optical disc product certification
The Japan Document and Information Management Association (JIIMA) has awarded the JIIMA Archive Optical Disc Product Certification, which certifies the high quality of archival optical disc products, with an estimated lifespan of over 30 years in an ISO/IEC 16963 compliant life estimation test. Obtained in combination with a ``DM for Archive'' compatible disk that has a long lifespan. The quality recorded with this combination falls under the "good condition" defined by the DM function of the JIS X6257 standard. The combination of this writer and Pioneer's BD-R (SL) disc "IPS-BD11J03P" has been confirmed to have an estimated lifespan of over 100 years in an ISO/IEC 16963 compliant lifespan estimation test.

Compatible with “DM (Defect Management) for Archive”
Compatible with "DM for Archive," which improves the performance of the alternative processing function (DM) that is standard on Blu-ray discs. Recording and recording quality confirmation are performed in a series of operations, and if it is determined that the quality standards are not met, recording is performed in an alternative area to ensure recording quality that complies with the DM function of JIS X6257 and ISO/IEC18630 standards. By using the dedicated writing app "DM Archiver" and recording to a "DM for Archive" compatible disc, you can create high-quality discs that can be stored for a long time. The dedicated writing app "DM Archiver" is an app dedicated to recording DM for Archive. You can also set a password for enhanced security.
There is a "Status display function" that displays the history of recording that complies with ISO/IEC 18630 and JIS X6257. (Discs recorded with "DM Archiver" can be read with other Pioneer drives.) After recording DM for Archive, a Status screen will be displayed indicating that recording has been performed in accordance with ISO/IEC 18630 and JIS X6257. In addition, by inserting the disc into a compatible drive and checking the status, you can check the status to see whether the disc is compatible and whether recording is performed in accordance with ISO/IEC 18630 and JIS X6257 can. When recording DM for Archive, you can set a password for each disk and encrypt the file. A unique encryption method is used for encryption, and decryption can only be performed using this application. You can set whether to encrypt or not when recording for the first time. For this reason, it is not possible to record unencrypted data on a disc that has encrypted data recorded on it (or encrypted data on a disc that has unencrypted data recorded on it).
DM for Archive compatible discs undergo strict quality control by subjecting all discs to defect and servo inspection using stricter inspection standards than regular Blu-ray discs.Pioneer reduces the probability of data playback failures by subjecting all lots to accelerated testing using inspection standards based on life estimation test results and shipping only those discs that pass the test. BDR-WX01DM comes with one DM for Archive compatible disk (25GB).
In combination with BDX-PX1MC2 and BDX-PR1MC-L2, long-term storage of electronic documents compliant with JIS X6257 and ISO/IEC 18630 DM functions is possible. An estimated lifespan of over 100 years has been confirmed in ISO/IEC 16963 compliant lifespan estimation tests.
