The DVR-115D all round DVD ReWriter generally performed adequately, meaning that it would do the job in your daily burning/reading tasks. It is capable of burning DVD media at high speeds, thus staying within the range of the DVD burners' competition.

Summarizing the test results, we should mention that the CD error correction mechanisms of the drive proved to be mediocre, generating high levels of noise, some times audible. DVD error correction was good, successfully reading all of our defective discs. However, during error correction, the speed was some times decreased automatically, in order to increase correction efficiency.

As far as reading and writing speeds are concerned, the drive satisfied us, meeting its specifications. We were able to burn MCC 03RG20 , TYG03 , MCC 004 and YUDEN000T03 discs at 20X and some other at 18X. Also, all of our high speed DL discs were burned at 10X.

Moving on to the writing quality tests, we have to say that the Pioneer drive did not make quite a good impression. Only a few of the DVD+R/-R discs were burned flawlessly and the rest of them had many uncorrectable errors. Keep in mind, though, that the discs' readability was normal, with all of them being successfully read by the drive itself. On the other hans, CD-R/RW discs were burned accurately.

The support for overburning with DVD recordables is a plus while we would welcome any Pioneer's decision to offer booktype setting sometime in the future.
