PNY launches Quadro FX 4600 for 3D pros
PNY has released the Quadro FX 4600, an upgraded version of the FX 4500 workstation-class graphics card. Based on nVidias chip of the same name, the FX 4600 offers up to twice the performance of its predecessor in pro-level 3D applications, according to PNY.
The board features an array of 128 parallel 1.35GHz cores, which the board automatically allocates as computational, geometry, shader and pixel cores as needed. This gives it more flexibility than previous graphics cards, as it can match its performance to different types of scenes.
The FX 4600 has 768MB of RAM, up from the 4500s 512MB. It has a core clock speed of 500MHz and a memory clock speed of 600MHz, with a 384-bit memory interface (up from 256-bit). The memory bandwidth has doubled from 33.6GBps to 67.2GBps.
Vistas DirectX 10 graphics system is supported by the FX 4600, with optimized OpenGL ICD drivers included for both 32-bit and 64-bit systems. The board also supports nVidias CUDA computing language. Frame lock and genlock are available through the optional Quadro G-Sync board, and a version with 12-bit HD SDI output is available as the Quadro 4600SDI.
Pricing has yet to be announced.
