Quantum offers network attached storage software management tool

Quantum offers network attached storage software management tool

Enterprise & IT Nov 28,2001 0

Quantum announced that it has integrated OTG Software’s DiskXtender data aggregation software into its Snap Server line of Network Attached Storage (NAS) appliances. The new product, called Snap Server DiskXtender Appliance Edition (DX AE), offers customers a simple, cost-effective package for managing data storage by consolidating and centralizing distributed network data into a virtual storage pool. Snap Server DX AE will provide management for a total of nearly five terabytes of storage. Available immediately, Snap Server DX AE has been designed specifically as an appliance-focused version of OTG’s industry leading DiskXtender software. Snap Server DX AE software can aggregate up to five Snap Servers and works with the rack mount Snap Server 4100 and Snap Server 12000 products. As an added benefit to customers, Snap Server DX AE includes one year of service and support.

“Mid-range customers require increased functionality and ease of use from storage solutions, yet also want minimal administration costs,” said Vicki Vollmar, director of product marketing of Quantum’s Network Attached Storage Division. “With the availability of Snap Server DiskXtender Appliance Edition, Quantum delivers a compelling storage management solution for the Snap Server product line, the most widely adopted NAS appliance in the industry.”

In addition to consolidating data seamlessly across multiple network servers, Snap Server DX AE can integrate into an organization’s current storage environment and provide immediate and transparent access to end users without administrator intervention. Data is automatically and intelligently migrated to Snap Servers, freeing up costly servers for applications and reducing manual management overhead.

The increased management functionality of the Snap Server DX AE allows Snap Server customers to create a robust virtual storage pool of Snap Server-based storage, scaling from gigabytes to multiple terabytes of storage and integrating seamlessly to store, track, and retrieve information.

“We are pleased to couple OTG’s storage virtualization solutions with Snap Servers, and to bring this, and other solutions to the market,” said William Caple, executive vice president of OTG Software. “Snap Server DX AE provides enterprise users with a powerful solution to their growing storage management problem.”

“We are continuing to work together with OTG Software to provide additional storage solutions with our Snap Server product line, and we look forward to bringing these products to market in the coming months,” said Vollmar.

Snap Server DiskXtender Appliance Edition Availability

The Snap Server DX AE is available immediately through Snap Server resellers or via the online Snap Store at www.snapserver.com. Snap Server DX AE software pricing varies by Snap Server products and capacities. For pricing information, visit any value added reseller (VAR) or the online Snap Store. Snap Server DX AE software can be purchased separately or together with the Snap Server 12000 and Snap Server 4100.

The Snap Server Product Line

The Snap Server product family includes the desktop model Snap Server 1000 40GB and 80GB, and the Snap Server 2200 160GB. The Snap Server 4100 240GB and 400GB are 1U rack-mountable units. The Snap Server 12000 is a 3U 960GB product featuring hot swap drives and redundant hardware for corporate departments and large workgroups. The leader in the workgroup NAS market category, Quantum has shipped more than 80,000 Snap Servers worldwide as of September 30, 2001. Snap Server appliances typically install in five minutes or less without any disruptions to the network and deliver automatic, simultaneous multi-platform file-sharing support for Windows, Novell, Macintosh and UNIX/Linux users on the same network.
