In-Stat: DVD recorder shipments to grow 32-fold by 2006

General Interest Jan 3,2003 0

Thanks to falling prices, DVD recorders shipments will reach 32 million units in 2006, up nearly 32 times from an estimated one million units this year, according to In-Stat/MDR. As more manufacturers produce DVD recorders, pricing will drop to under US$400 or even US$300 by the end of 2003. At less than US$300, more consumers will purchase DVD recorders instead of DVD players, the market research firm said. About 53 million DVD players will be shipped this year, up 61% from previous year. It is estimated that the DVD player market will hit 84 million units in 2006.
