Toshiba to Highlight PMR and 0.85-Inch HDD at 2006 Storage Visions Conference
Toshiba plans to showcase improvements in hard disk drive technology during the Mobile CE panel at the 2006 Storage Visions Conference.
Toshiba is a pioneer in HDD technology for consumer
electronics devices and is currently the market leader in HDDs
sold into CE devices, according to IDC. The company was the
first to introduce and ship HDDs with perpendicular magnetic
recording (PMR), which will deliver higher-capacity drives for
portable consumer electronics devices such as digital music
players and mobile phones. Toshiba also is one of the first
HDD suppliers to build and deploy automotive-class HDDs into
digital systems for the car and currently has 85 percent share
of HDD shipments into automotive applications. In addition,
the company is working with CE manufacturers to integrate the
world's smallest HDD at 0.85 inches into consumer devices,
enabling more portability and functionality for small handheld
applications like digital music, GPS mobile phones and
portable storage.
