VLC 2.0 Comes With New UI and Blu-ray Support for OS X

VLC 2.0 Comes With New UI and Blu-ray Support for OS X

Enterprise & IT Feb 14,2012 0

VideoLAN has announced VLC 2.0, which comes a new user interface along with Blu-ray playback support for OS X. The new 64-bit Windows version also supports multiple video files inside RAR archives. VLC 2.0's interface for Mac is very different from its previous revision, both technically and usage-wise. Playlist and video output share the same window, service discovery modules can be easily accessed through a sidebar and various audio + video filters are available through the respective panels. Besides that, the interface is noticeably faster and easily expandable. VideoLAN also added support for VLC's lua-based extensions, which allow users to get info about the current movie from Allocine, post to Twitter, fetch subtitles automatically, etc.

But the most important feature for the new VLC player for MAC is the support for Blu-ray playback in OS X. Apple does not officially support Blu-ray as they provide no option for Blu-ray drives. VideoLAN is promising that VLC 2.0 will sport experimental Blu-ray playback support.

The Windows version features mainly under the hood changes.
