FHP Releases 42-inch Full HD PDP

FHP Releases 42-inch Full HD PDP

Consumer Electronics Dec 8,2005 0

Fujitsu Hitachi Plasma Display Ltd. (FHP) has developed a 42-inch PDP module that offers the HD resolution of 1920 x 1080. The company will start mass production of the PDP in spring 2007 and it will be available under the Hitachi brand. Highlights of the new device include its maximum brightness which reaches 1,000 cd/m2 and its full On/Off contrast ratio of 3,000:1.

In order to increase the pixel count in this 42-inch model, FHP has reduced the width of ribs horizontally dividing the pixels to about 2/3 the current width. The pitch between the adjacent ribs is also reduced from 0.3 mm to the world's smallest 0.16 mm. These improvements are made possible by the adoption of advanced rib processing technologies.

FHP reportedly accounts the 30% share in the market of XGA and WXGA PDPs that have the pixel count higher than 800000. With the launch of the 42-inch full HD model, FHP aims to maintain its share above 30% in the HD PDP market.

LG also announced a 43 inch PDP display equipped with a 160GB hard disk drive last week. In addition, Panasonic took the lead with a 50 inch 1080p Plasma HDTV last October. However, the companies have not revealed their plans for mass production and availability at the market.
