TV Makers Phase Out Plasma TV Production
It seems that plasma TVs will soon become hsistory as
one of the last remaining plasma display makers - Samsung SDI- announced this week it will cease making the flat-screens used in TVs in November.
The move leaves just LG Electronics as the sole company in the world still making plasma display televisions. But it is unclear for how long, as plasma TVs only account for a single-digit percentage of the company's TV revenue these days.
Japanese Panasonic, once the biggest player in the field, also signaled a complete withdrawal last year.
Although plasma screens had advantages over LCDs including better viewing angles and faster response time, they failed to compete with the liquid crystal displays, which could be found in many sizes and resolutions.
