M-Systems Doubles Capacity and Trims Size of its Fast Flash Disk (FFD) 2.5" SCSI Product Line
M-Systems announced that it has doubled the capacity and trimmed the size of its Fast Flash Disk (FFD) 2.5" SCSI product line.
Within a standard 2.5" SCSI package, the new 17 millimeter (mm) high FFD is available with capacities up to 5.3 Gigabytes (GB) or 5376 Megabytes (MB), double the previous maximum of 2688MB. In slimmer cases of 12mm and 8mm thicknesses, the FFD 2.5" SCSI is available in a maximum capacity of 2.8GB (2816MB) and 1.0GB (1024MB) respectively.
"Now, applications requiring a highly reliable compact storage solution, such as telecommunications, military or airborne systems, can benefit even more from our products," said Ofer Tsur, M-Systems' FFD marketing director. "Designers can simply swap their conventional SCSI hard disk for our FFD 2.5" SCSI and gain up to 5.3GB of the most reliable data storage on the market."
M-Systems' Fast Flash Disk (FFD) 2.5" SCSI is a state-of-the-art solid-state disk based on flash technology. It is fully compatible with the SCSI-II interface. It can be used as a drop-in replacement for standard 2.5" SCSI magnetic disk drives.
With its unique design and M-Systems' True Flash File System (TrueFFS®) technology, the 2.5" SCSI FFD has a performance advantage over other solutions by eliminating seek time, latency and other electro-mechanical delays inherent in conventional disk drives. TrueFFS, with its dynamic wear leveling algorithm, provides enhanced endurance and maximum data integrity that contributes to FFD's outstanding performance.
The 2.5" SCSI FFD is a high capacity flash disk available in a variety of densities ranging from 32MB to 5.3GB. The FFD SCSI provides a burst read/write rate of 9.7MB per second, a sustained read rate of 3.6MB per second and a write rate of 3.4MB per second. With its special hardware and software design, the FFD 2.5" SCSI provides data reliability measured in a mean time between failures (MTBF) of millions of hours. It dependably operates within adverse environments such as unstable power, extreme temperatures, shocks, vibrations and high altitude.
