Intel Slashes Prices of Core 2 Quad Processors
Intel announced the prices of its processors for January 2009 which include a price drop of its top-end Core 2 Quad CPU - the Q9650 - by 40 percent.
According to the new list, the Intel Q9650 (12M L2 cache, 3.00 GHz 1333 MHz FSB, 45nm) is now priced at $316, which is 40% cheaper than the Dec 08 price. The company also now offers the Q9400 (6M L2 cache, 2.66 GHz 1333 MHz FSB, 45nm) for $213 (20% less than Dec 08) and the Q8300 (4M L2 cache, 2.50 GHz 1333 MHz FSB, 45nm) for $183 (18% less than Dec 08).
Other price reductions include the 24% cheaper E5300 (2M L2 cache, 2.60 GHz 800 MHz FSB, 45nm) desktop dual-core chip as well as the new price of the Xenon processors for servers, which includes the $316 X3370 (12M L2 chache, 3.00 GHz (95W) 1333MHz FSB 45nm).
The company has not changed the prices of the latest Core i7, Core 2 Extreme, and Atom CPUs.
