Apple iOS 4 Update Adds Social Features, HDR Photography
Apple's iOS 4.1 software update is the first major update to iOS 4, bringing Game Center, new iTunes features, high dynamic range photography, and more to iPhone.
The iOS 4 works with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 3G. However, not all features are compatible with all devices.
Here is what's new for iOS 4.1:
Game Center allows users to experience social gaming on their iPhone. Users can find friends or use auto-match to play multiplayer games against new opponents, track achievements and compare high scores. The feature is available on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPod touch (2nd generation and later). Game Center works with apps that have been developed to work with the Game Center service.
iTunes TV show rentals allows users to rent TV shows commercial-free right from their iPhone for 99? an episode and start watching them in minutes.
The IOS 4.1 update also adds support for iTunes Ping, Apple's social discovery features in iTunes. Users can keep up with their friends? music and follow their favorite artists.
With support for HDR photography, users can take photos that capture a wider range of light intensity using the new high dynamic range (HDR) setting on iPhone 4. The feature automatically combines multiple exposures into a single HDR image.
Last but not least, the iOS 4.1 adds support for HD video uploads to YouTube and MobileMe from the iPhone 4.
The iOS 4.1 software update also includes all the main features of the previous version of the OS, the iOS 4. These include multitasking, folders, ibooks, better email, playlists,5x digital zoom, tap to focus video, spell checking e.t.c.
The updated operating system has also had a security update. Apple said in its support information that an issue with FaceTime had been resolved along with a range of other bug fixes, some of which would have allowed remote code execution.
