Nippon Electric Glass Works On Bendable Displays

Nippon Electric Glass Works On Bendable Displays

Enterprise & IT Dec 10,2013 0

Japanese Nippon Electric Glass has begun shipping samples of a glass product for OLED displays and solar cells that is just 35 microns thick - thinner than any other large glass product now available in the industry. The product, called G-Leaf, is manufactured by taking avantage of the gravity, using a furnace that stands tens of meters high. It cranks out glass sheets in dimensions up to 0.5 meter wide and 100 meters long. These sheets can be rolled up with a bend radius of 25mm, which means the glass is flexible enough for use on bendable displays and touch screens.

Nippon Electric Glass has already shipped samples of G-Leaf in thicknesses ranging from 35-300 microns to some 500 companies, including producers of electronic components and manufacturing equipment.

The company expects retail products using ultrathin glass sheets to hit the market in 2015.
