YouTube's Music Key Service Pushed Back For September 2015
The official launch of YouTube's Music Key, a music subscription service announced last year, has been pushed back for September, as the current beta version will live on through the summer of 2015.
Announced by Google last September, YouTube Music Key is an upgrade of Youtube's music offerings that will include ads-free, high-quality audio, background play and offline viewing for $7.99 a month. It will also include a subscription to Google Play Music.
The service has been available as a test version only to a few beta testers, which are now invited to continue making the most of this system for free until at least September 15.
In addition to YouTube, Apple is also expected to launch its own music streaming service sometime before the fall. Because of Apple's acquisition of Beats by Dre last year, Apple could integrate Beats technology into iOS and include social features that would be available to artists.
Spotify, the leader in the music streming market, has also recently upgraded its music streaming offering by adding video podcasts as well as an offer formatted specifically for runners. Spotify boasts more than 60 million active users around the world, of which 15 million are paying subscribers.
