Developers Handed Nintendo NX SDKs: report

Developers Handed Nintendo NX SDKs: report

Gaming Oct 16,2015 0

The mystery of Nintendo's next console remains, as the Japanese company has provided no details so far rather that confirming its existence. A new report adds that the Nintendo NX will be a powerful hybrid gaming device and that game developers already have their SDKs delivered. The Wall Street Journal says that Nintendo's next console - codenamed NX - will feature "industry-leading chips" to better compete with the more powerful Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

The paper also says that the NX will "likely include both a console and at least one mobile unit that could either be used in conjunction with the console or taken on the road for separate use."

Nintendo's latest console, the Wii U, has a tablet-like controller. Among other things, it allows users to play full games on the device, though only if they stay relatively close to the main console. If the WSJ's report is accurate, it seems like Nintendo is taking this idea further with the NX.

The WSJ also says that third-party developers already have their hands on development kits for the new platform. These kits are being sent to unspecified third-party developers so they can modify their existing games or create new ones to run on the upcoming platform.

Earlier this year Square Enix announced that the upcoming Dragon Quest XI would be coming to the NX in addition to the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation 4.

The NX will be probably released next year.

Nintendo has expanded into mobile games for the first time through a partnership with DeNA, with the first game to launch this year. The company also announced investment in former Google subsidiary Niantic, which will release the augmented reality game Pokemon Go game next year.
