Chinese Display Makers Challenge Korean Rivals
Chinese display makers are speeding up efforts to catch up with the Korean companies LG Display and Samsung Display, which are ruling the roost in the global display market. In the large LCD panel and 8K (high-definition of 7,680 x 4,320) display markets, Chinese companies are making investment earlier than their Korean rivals, aimed at grabbing a commanding presence in the future TV market.
According to industry sources, Chinese display makers whose market share remained low at 4.7 percent in 2010 in the large LCD panel market surged to 25.9 percent in this market in the second quarter of this year.
During the same period, the shares of Korean companies fell to 35.4 percent from 48.9 percent, while those of Taiwanese companies slipped to 35.2 percent from 40.4 percent.
While Korean display makers remain stalled in 8G LCD panels, China's BOE is engaged in the construction of a 10.5G production line which is scheduled to be completed by 2018.
