16x DVD-ROM retail prices drop to US$35
Per-unit retail prices of 16x DVD-ROM drives in Taiwan have fallen below US$35, a level that some optical-storage drive makers said has severely crunched their margins. Many blamed weak demand in the past quarter, which caused distributors to dump inventory into the market and depressed prices. Prices are projected to drop to US$30 in the short run if demand fails to improve, drive makers said.
